Scripture for the Day Nov 30th 2020: Turning the Enemy OFF
Sometimes I get tired of the news, even the news on TrumpChat. I get tired of OAN, Newsmax, Gatewaypundit, Epoch Times, all of them. I am certainly MAGA-tired of the FOX scam and the MSM. What a bad aftertaste even thinking about them. I do scan the alternative news, though, but I don't read them during my Spirit-imposed timeouts. Why is that? For one, many of the so-called headlines aren't headlines at all. It's annoying to see 'breaking news' which is only someone's opinion. He said this; she said this; that group said this. Perhaps it's a statement from a senator nobody has ever heard of. Other stories are designed to fluster us and throw us off balance. But is it really news, or are they hollow stocking fillers with little thought, substance, and newsworthiness?
It is in those moments I am retreating to the Word of God with either reading or listening to God's word. This is how yesterday's circling back to the question of why treason visits us in the first place came about. I put on 2 Samuel 24 to 1 Kings 3 and listened.
Spiritual food is just as important for our sustenance than physical food. Jesus tells us:
Matthew 4:4
But He answered and said, "It is written, 'MAN SHALL NOT LIVE ON BREAD ALONE, BUT ON EVERY WORD THAT PROCEEDS OUT OF THE MOUTH OF GOD.'"
We associate this verse with God's Word. But how do we know where the other spiritual food we consume more often comes from; the TV with the relentless programming of its viewers, the news on the internet, someone’s commentary, another ones’s opinion? It may well come from the enemy. But LP, listen! Not everything that's not scripture is evil! Well, that's true. We are called to rightly divide the Word of God and to measure the things of the world against God's Word. Here are God's instructions:
1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world.
Acts 17:11
Now these were more noble-minded than those in Thessalonica, for they received the word with great eagerness, examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.
and
1 Thessalonians 5:19-22
19 Do not quench the Spirit;
20 do not despise prophetic utterances.
21 But examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good;
22 abstain from every form of evil.
We are what we eat. Humans are designed to believe the things they hear more often. If we have that TV on all day and listen to the news 24x7 without reverting to basics, to the one truth that stands forever, our ability to discern will suffer, and the enemy has a stronghold on us and we don't even realize it. Don't let that happen to you! I find respite and nourishment in turning the world off for a time. I recharge my Spirit with God's Word and sharpen my discernment. Things come into perspective again, and the ever twisting news spin does not move me. My faith strengthens. I remain steadfast.
Let me ask you then,
Isaiah 53:1 NASB1995
1 Who has believed our message? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?
Praying for wisdom and knowledge is one thing. Practicing it is quite another.
Let's bow our hearts and pray:
LORD, we thank You for this day. You are the same today as You were yesterday, and as You are tomorrow.
We know, You are the Way, the Truth, and the Life. You are the WORD, Lord, and on your Word, we stand.
Since the beginning of mankind, You sought to have a relationship with Your creation, to instruct us in the way that we ought to go.
LORD, today we pray for discernment. We pray that the Holy Spirit Who dwells within us gives us peace beyond understanding, to know precisely when something is You, and when something is not.
LORD, we want to be obedient to Your call in our lives. We pray for such discernment to not only make wise choices but in the course of it act on our knowledge.
LORD, protect President Trump, his team, his lawyers, his warriors like Sidney Powell and General Flynn, and His supporters, now and always.
LORD, thank you for Who You are!
In Jesus Name,
Amen
