Daily Devotional Feb 22nd 2021: Trust Yourself - Trust A Leader? Uhm - NO!

Discernment. Whenever I see a call to trust myself or to trust a human person, I cringe. I know it is a message from the enemy designed to mislead me. Such motivational hooray call may even come from well-meaning people unaware that the enemy just used them. As much as I love and admire President Trump and trust him to a degree, he is still a human being, fallible, and prone to making mistakes. A leader earns trust over time; we should never give it to someone outright. Arguably, President Trump has earned much of my trust, and I love and admire him. But the enemies who infiltrated his administration gave him terrible advice and caused us to lose the presidency to massive fraud. I don't blame our President. Who could have known the crushing and vile powers the swamp surrounded him with!

Whenever I see a call to trust anyone but Jesus, the Son of God, I know it is a message from the enemy designed to mislead me. I can then safely disregard the message because they design it to mislead me. Quite simple, but a valuable compass in the jungle of information I scroll through every day.

King David

But why not trust President Trump; surely he is honest and patriotic, having only the best for the country, for American's on his heart. True, this. But was King David not a man of God's own heart?

1 Samuel 13:14
“But now thy kingdom shall not continue: the LORD hath sought him a man after his own heart, and the LORD hath commanded him to be captain over his people, because thou hast not kept that which the LORD commanded thee.”

Did King David not commit many sins and then endured the punishment for it, he and his house? God blessed David with wisdom, courage, and power. Yet, when he trusted himself, he failed. He wasn't a hotshot. He was mature, a married man, successful. He had walked with God for many years. Yet, he committed adultery and murder. The only thing that saved David was his repentance. But his house would suffer for his sins and cause his offspring, even his people, death, and destruction. Sin always does. Read about David's troubles in 2 Samuel 11—1 Kings 2. It is not pretty.

King Solomon

King Solomon was King David's second son with Bathsheba. He lost his firstborn because of the adultery with Bathsheba, and for murdering Uriah, Bathsheba's husband to hide his adulteration. But God blessed Solomon. Because the new king asked for wisdom to lead Israel, (he was only 20 years old), the LORD made him the wisest man that ever was and ever would be. God loves our humbleness. Solomon didn't ask for his enemies' lives. He didn't ask for riches. He asked for wisdom. (1 Kings 3:1-15).

James 1:5
“If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him.”

Pride and lust drew the king into sin and dishonor. His riches, his eminence, his international fame, and pride had him forget God's statues. Despite God's explicit command to him not to, he married 700 heathen women, housed 300 concubines, and thus disgraced the Holy City. The pagan wives insisted on worshipping their own gods, and Solomon obliged, surrounding the city with unholy temples. As a result, Solomon aged prematurely. Who wouldn't with 1000 heathen women? Ask Bill Clinton, who "had" much less. (1 Kings 11:1-13)

Apostle Peter

What a leader, what a follower of Christ, what a rebel, what a failure, yet what a success. Which part can you trust? He even walked on water. Peter always questioned the status quo. He wasn't one to be messed with. He cut off an ear of a soldier with his sword when they came to arrest the Son of God. What did Jesus do? He re-attached the ear and restored the soldier. Peter acted on his own, human instinct. When Jesus was brought before the Pharisees, Peter denied him trice (Luke 22:55-62). But he repented, and the LORD used him as the Rock on which He built His church. Peter would later die upside-down on the cross.

We All Have Sinned

Every human is fallible. I am, too. The most glorious and celebrated leaders are imperfect. We all are prone to sin, except the Lord, Jesus. God cannot be tempted.

Romans 3:23
“For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;”

How arrogant would I be to trust myself? How unwise would I be to put all my trust in any man instead of God?

God cannot be tempted.

James 1:13
“Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:”

Who, Then, Can Be Your Leader?

Who then are the people aligned with cheering you on to trust in yourself, or in a man? Who is their leader?

Psalms 118:8
“It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man.”

And for those who trust in the military, consider this verse:

Isaiah 31:1
“Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help; and stay on horses, and trust in chariots, because they are many; and in horsemen, because they are very strong; but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel, neither seek the LORD!”

And how much clearer could God make it to us?

Matthew 12:30
“He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.”

How to Pray

Lord, You are my rightful King, my proper Leader, and my Salvation.
Lord, help me to stay humble this day and always because I recognize that even the greatest among us are all but man.
Lord, let me not be led astray.
Lord, grant me discernment

and the courage to reject the message of the enemy however tempting it may be to put my hope and trust in someone but You.
Lord, forgive me for not putting all my trust in You. Thank You for your boundless grace.

Proverbs 3:5 - 3:8
5 Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.
6 In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.
7 Be not wise in thine own eyes: fear the LORD, and depart from evil.
8 It shall be health to thy navel, and marrow to thy bones.

In Jesus' name
Amen

BIDEN’S FOLLYTHE LAW OF UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCESWhat it Means to Eliminate the Oil Industry Among Other ThingsBy E.P. Unum I wrote this essay back in the summer of 2020. Now that Joe Biden is President, it bears repeating because much of what feared has, sadly, already taken place. Many Democrats and Liberals like to shout and scream about how we all need to become more climate-conscious. They like to march down streets and wave their placards and makeshift flags about the need to eliminate fracking and do away with fossil fuels. Make no mistake, the self-anointed leader of the Democratic Party, Joe Biden promised during his Presidential campaign that he would not "do away with fracking or oi
